KOOSHOO STORY
Rachel and Jesse, husband and wife, yoga teachers, founders of KOOSHOO and a couple that treasures the art of feeling good. That is exactly why they founded KOOSHOO back in 2012 - to help others feel good including everyone from the individuals growing the crops through you, the end consumer. How do they do that? It’s actually quite simple. They operate their business with honesty, transparency and love as their core values.
Rachel and Jess are the makers of the world’s first plastic-free hair ties and scrunchies, along with the most responsibly-made headbands in the world.
Let’s get back to the name: Why KOOSHOO? - To understand that we have to travel to a little piece of paradise in the South Pacific called Norfolk. It is a beautiful island where life is still intimately connected to nature and as it just happens to be Rachel is a proud Norfolk Islander.
Kooshoo is a word commonly used here and it simply means - feeling good! They have built their business around a simple question: "Does this feel kooshoo?" In other words, every time they make a decision they ask themselves: "Is this in support of the greater good?".
Their hair ties, scrunchies and headbands truly make you feel and look good while being kind to Earth at the same time!
HOW DO THEY MAKE AN IMPACT?
KOOSHOO is a company that recognizes the impact that plastic has on our Planet and the fact that every hair tie and scrunchie you have owned is plastic. They estimate 15 million synthetic hair ties are lost or tossed every day in the US alone.
Their hair ties and scrunchies on the other hand are made from certified GOTS organic cotton and Fair Rubber Association tree rubber - both 100% biodegradable materials.
KOOSHOO dye house uses only GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified non-toxic dyes and uses FSC certified recycled paper for their packaging. In addition, their dye house in LA is solar powered!
That is not the end of their good business practices. KOOSHOO makes and distributes their products with fair trade partners creating sustainable jobs and providing high quality products.
Their manufacturing partner in India is a social-good enterprise which was founded by nuns and is Fair Trade and GOTS Certified. This partner uses company profits to fund a cancer treatment center for those without access to care.
On top of all that, KOOSHOO is a company that gives back. Almost every day they contribute to charities with their products and profits. We thank them for that!
