ECO BAGS STORY
ECO BAGS opened their doors for business in 1989 with a belief that bringing your own bag to the store is the first step of many towards a world with less waste.
Company wanted to encourage the culture of 3 R’s - reduce, reuse, recycle. They first started with the ECOBAGS Classic String Bag, a cotton net bag that was used in Europe way before paper and plastic bags ever existed!
Their bags were introduced in New York City at the 1990 Earth Day celebration and were an immediate hit, being sold out in four hours. They continued their work providing responsibly made reusable options for the growing movement of conscious shoppers.
Today they offer many reusable options like tote, produce and shopping bags to help us reduce our waste.
HOW DO THEY MAKE AN IMPACT?
In every corner and every aspect of their business there is sustainability written all over. All of their products are made in a socially responsible environment and their manufacturing partner in India goes way above local requirements to offer competitive wages, extended health coverage, retirement benefits, pension plans, etc.
ECOBAGS holds many third party certifications to back up their claims. They use GOTS certified organic cotton and SA-8000 certified recycled and conventional fibers in their production. In addition to that, all of their fabric dyes are azo-free and all screen-print inks are non-toxic.
Driven by the idea to use business as a force for good they became certified B Corp in 2011, meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability.
