It is a true blessing when your morning routine is spending time with your children! Ryan, co-founder of Tru Earth and his wife Kathleen were expecting their third child at the time.
Their morning would start with a glass of milk for their 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter and straight to watching Youtube videos with toy shows, which they loved so much.
There was something about these shows that caught Ryan’s attention and not in a good way! He noticed there was plastic everywhere which got him very upset. Everything the kids on the show would touch from the wrap and packaging to the toy itself. It was like a sea of plastic all around!
Ryan wondered if he could do something to reduce some of the plastic waste and he knew just the right person to talk to! He called up his good friend Brad, a serial entrepreneur and remembered how Brad told him about an extended-family member with a patent on laundry detergent that was supposed to be eco-friendly.
The patent was an effective laundry detergent that fit the entire jug into packaging the size of an iPhone. Brad was sceptical about this since he wasn’t sure how is an “eco-friendly” detergent that he could fit in his pocket, going to clean his clothes.
Two of them and their childhood friend Kevin decided to try these laundry strips and what they all found out is that the strips actually work. Three friends decided to partner up and test the product on the market.
After they got 15,000 subscribers in their first month, it became clear that there are many people like them that want to make conscious choices, all they need is some guidance. Today, Tru Earth is one of the leaders in creating environmentally friendly laundry products!
HOW DO THEY MAKE AN IMPACT?
Believing that small actions can make big changes and putting progress over perfection is the starting point of everything they do at Tru Earth!
It is estimated that over 30 billion loads of laundry are done in North America each year! Considering that most of it is done with conventional detergents that come in plastic bottles and packed with all kinds of chemicals, that is a huge impact on the environment!
At Tru Earth, things are done differently! Their laundry strips have a significantly smaller footprint! Their packaging is plastic-free and light weight which reduces transportation fuel consumption and global-warming carbon emissions by 94% compared to today’s leading-brand liquid and powder detergent.
Eco-Strip themselves are ultra concentrated, hypoallergenic, vegan and free of parabens, phosphates, added dyes, chlorine bleach and 1,4-dioxane.
Company estimated that if everyone would switch to their eco-strips we would eliminate one billion plastic jugs, saving 700 million from going to landfills. It would also save truck fuel and CO2 equivalent to taking 27 million cars off the road for a day, or planting nine million trees.
